Head to Santa Fe for your next girls getaway

Every once in a while you need to get away with the girls. Santa Fe is a great destination for you and your posse whether you’re traveling with your BFF, your college sorority sisters or your Mommy and Me group, this over 400 year old city is here to be discovered.

Santa Fe has a lot to offer for your hen escape. There are hotels and lodgings in all budgets, many with southwestern or Santa Fe-style décor. If the budget can handle it, a downtown location allows you to walk to many of the places you’ll want to visit. Some lodgings offer shuttle service for their guests’ convenience. There are also options in the surrounding high desert if you want to be away from the low-key Santa Fe version of hustle and bustle.

The second oldest city in the US, offers visitors the opportunity to go back in time. Whether you tour the historic Plaza, visit a 1,000 year-old pueblo or go to any of the many historic sites, you’re in for a treat. There are Civil War battlefields, ancient pueblos, petroglyph sites and more to explore.

To feed the body, there’s a wide selection of dining options offering diverse cuisines from New Mexican to New American to African with lots in between. To feed the soul, there are spas, museums, galleries and more; the city is teeming with culture. Music lovers will discover a wealth of concerts every season of the year. The dance scene features the Aspen-Santa Fe Ballet, flamenco and even line dancing at local bars. Art lovers will enjoy a wealth of museums (including the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum) and over 200 galleries. Throughout the year, there are festivals and events that are worth planning a trip around. If you are looking for outdoor adventure, The City Different is the gateway to the Santa Fe National Forest, the Pecos Wilderness and the Kit Carson National Forest. There outdoor activities to enjoy all year ‘round. In winter there’s downhill skiing, snow-boarding and snow-shoeing. In spring and summer, go rafting on the Rio Grande.

Spring summer and fall there are many activities including: trout fishing, golfing, ballooning, hiking, climbing, biking, llama trekking or horseback riding.

No girls getaway is complete until you’ve hit the stores. The city is loaded with unique boutiques. The three main shopping areas are downtown, the Guadalupe/Railyard District and Canyon Road. While there’s a wide selection of merchandise from all over the world, Santa Fe shines when it comes to southwestern treasures. It’s the place to buy cowboy boots and hats and vintage western wear. Santa Fe shops and galleries offer some of the best Native American art and handcrafts in the world. If you’ve craved a concho belt or an piece of handcrafted silver and turquoise jewelry, this is the place to make that dream come true. There are pieces for every budget. Buy from the source; Native Americans sell their handmade wares under the portal at the Palace of the Governors daily. If you are a folk art fan, there is world-class Spanish Colonial Art here and some of the best art in the world in the plethora of galleries in Santa Fe’s shopping and gallery districts.

    I’d like to take 4 – 5 girlfriends to Santa Fe..but my wife always messes up such plans. great photos..great options..
