Three over-the top romantic Santa Fe hotels

Looking for the perfect place for a vacation a deux? Santa Fe is loaded with romantic lodging options from intimate bed and breakfasts to small inns to boutique hotels; there’s something for everyone’s taste. We wanted to go one step farther and find the most over-the-top places for the ultimate romantic getaway. Three luxury properties in The City Different offer our idea of what the ultimate in pampering should look like. Here are our top picks for romantic Santa Fe hotels.

The Terrace at La Fonda on the Plaza

La Fonda on the Plaza, the site of the oldest hotel in Santa Fe, is rich in history. The completely renovated property pays homage to its rich history. It’s a great place for a Santa Fe stay, but if you want to experience that over-the-top romantic Santa Fe getaway, book a room in The Terrace, the hotel’s concierge floor. Accessed by its own elevator and a key card, it’s a world unto itself! As you enter the well-appointed lobby you’re greeted by The Terrace’s dedicated concierge. We had a memorable night here..

Our room (640) with a king-sized bed, wood burning fireplace, claw foot soaking tub and large private terrace was very romantic; it may be the most romantic room in the hotel. Breakfast is included with all Terrace room rates; you can choose to have it in the restaurant delivered to the room. The option of breakfast in bed, a truly decadent luxury in my book, really took our stay over the top. I was a little skeptical as I’ve had cold room service breakfasts at hotels and regretted that choice.  Luckily, our food arrived hot and breakfast was a real treat. Other perks for Terrace guests: a welcome amenity, nightly turn-down service and a private outdoor hot tub. Want to take it a bit more over the top? Order an in-room couples massage. Add a bottle of good wine, a little chocolate and you have the perfect over-the-top Santa Fe romantic getaway.

Tip: Each room and suite at The Terrace is different. The most romantic are 640 and 635 with an in-room whirlpool tub. If you really want to splurge go for 703 the Executive Suite.

The Hacienda at the Hotel Santa Fe

The Hacienda at the Hotel Santa Fe is a boutique hotel within a hotel; a place where A-list movie stars sometimes stay while shooting films here. The Hacienda’s 35 rooms and suites are in their own building, accessed via key card. What takes it over the top is the butler service. Guests are contacted by a butler prior to arrival to discover what arrangements they can make in advance to assure you have a great stay. Need dinner reservations, concert tickets, day trips arranged, anything at all? They’ll attend to it for you. A butler greets you at check-in and escorts you to your room or suite. Want your luggage unpacked? Done! Want something ironed? Just ask. Need an errand run or something picked up around town? They’ll take care of it for you. They are there to meet the guests’ every legal whim. The rooms are comfortable and furnished in Santa Fe style. For a true over the top experience book the 800 square feet, one-bedroom Buffalo Suite. It has a spacious living room with fireplace, a plush king bed, a spacious bathroom with oversized Jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower and lots of additional amenities. For added romance book an in-room couples massage or visit the hotel’s spa, located in the same building. The Hacienda hosts a nightly reception featuring wine and hors d’œuvres as well as an expanded continental breakfast. Want it in bed? Just ask your butler.

The Inn of the Five Graces

The exotic Silk Road meets Santa Fe at The Inn of the Five Graces, a Relais and Chateaux property set on a quiet side street a short walk from the Santa Fe Plaza. The 24 unique rooms and suites, all with wood burning fireplaces, are decorated in a sumptuous mix of antique and new furniture and accessories, sourced from exotic destinations around the world. The beds, all topped with featherbeds, have been likened to “sleeping on a cloud.” Like baths? Choose one of the suites with an oversized bathroom equipped with deep soaking tubs, walk-in showers, mosaic walls and spacious double-sink custom vanities. What’s more romantic than a soak for two? Follow it with an in-room couple’s massage and a candle-lit dinner a deux (which can ever be delivered to the room). The many private courtyards evoke exotic lands. The most over-the-top accommodations are the premium suites, but whatever level you choose, you’ll be surrounded by luxury. Room rates include full breakfast (which can even be delivered to the room). The fitness/spa building is unlike any workout facility you’ve ever seen. From your arrival to your departure you’ll be pampered at The Inn of the Five Graces.

Want time away with that special person? Santa Fe is one of the most romantic places we’ve ever been in the US. There’s something mystical about the old-world charm, narrow streets and rich history. It’s like visiting a foreign city but you don’t need a passport. There are so many romantic Santa Fe hotels; these three are at the top of our list but there are many more. The City Different is the perfect destination your next romantic getaway. Trust us!

Here are some suggestions for things to do on your romantic Santa Fe getaway.

What are your favorite romantic Santa Fe hotels?

Author’s note: We had hosted stays at both The Terrace at La Fonda and The Hacienda at Hotel Santa Fe in 2015. When Steve worked at The Inn of the Five Graces (under different management) one of the perks was a night a year at the inn. We wrote about the three properties because we think they’re great places for a romantic (or other) getaway.

Some great insider tips for a romantic getaway here. Good to hear about the fab breakfast in bed at La Fonda on the Plaza, Room service is a true test of hotel ( especially if you order poached eggs like I do – lol)

Thanks! We love great hotels. I either had sunny-side up eggs (also hard to deliver well) or poached. I know I went for the ham and eggs I knew from breakfasts at their restaurant that the ham steak is fab.

That bathroom looks amazing. I’ve never been to Santa Fe but it’s definitely on my “to travel to” list for my life after 50.

Their bathrooms as totally decadent and over-the-top in a good way. Soaking in one of those tubs is a treat!

I’ve never seen a hotel bathroom quite like the one at the Inn of the Five Graces – wow! All three places look divine for a romantic getaway. A couples massage sounds good, too. The butler at the Hacienda sounds like a fun over-the-top amenity, but I think I’ll unpack my own luggage, thanks.

The bathrooms are truly spectacular. It’s the perfect place for a romantic getaway. I drew the line at the butler unpacking for me but I asked him to iron a few pairs of slacks as we were coming off a road trip. He popped by for something and I gave him another pair and said that he could bring them all back at the same time. He said the other two pairs had already been returned. That’s service!

For my favorite romantic Santa Fe hotel I pick The Hacienda at the Hotel Santa Fe, which I did get a tour of when my director son stayed there while filming “The Hitcher.” Sean Bean was also there, as were the other actors. Very Nice.
