A short guide to Breckenridge Colorado lodging

Breckenridge Colorado lodging is a unique. There’s nary a chain motel or hotel in sight. In fact, there are very few hotels of any kind. The majority of accommodations are house and condo rentals, condotels and time-shares. Which one works for you?

Condos:

Condos are not for everyone. Some people love the idea of having an apartment when they travel and some love the amenities that come with hotels. If you want a kitchen, multiple baths and privacy but don’t want to pay for a hotel suite, condos are a great option.

If you’re traveling with young children, a condo is a great option. You’ll have access to a kitchen with a full-size fridge, a stove and a dishwasher. Many come with multiple bathrooms and maybe even a washer and dryer.. You can easily breakfast in, save money and get a fast start to your day or put together a picnic lunch to enjoy while out and about. If you’re feeling ambitions or you’re on a budget, cook a delicious and nutritious dinner and have a wonderful family evening in. Most properties offer on-site grilling facilities for warm weather cooking. For entertainment there are TVs (often wide-screen), DVD players (sometimes even DVDs or you can bring your favorites or rent some). CD players are common and board games and more may be available. Many have pools for summer use and hot-tubs available year-round.

There are a few good resources listing or specializing in condo and other rentals. The Breckenridge Resort Chamber website offers rental listings; Summit Mountain Rentals has a wide range of properties from studios to luxury homes for rent and HomeAway’s website specializes in condominiums, cabins and chalets.

Condotels:

If you want to get the comfort and convenience of a condo combined with the services and amenities found in a  full service hotel, stay at a condotel. These individually owned units are rented out as hotel rooms or condo apartments in the owner’s absence.

Hotels:

There are very few conventional hotels here. Many of the places that come up in search engines when looking for “Breckenridge Hotels” are time shares or condos renting units for owners when they are not in residence. Here are four that rent rooms, suites and house to visitors.

If you like a smaller property and more reasonable rates, The Lodge and Spa at Breckenridge offers 45 rooms, suites and houses. Enjoy the vistas of the Tenmile Range from most their mountainside location. They’re about five miles from the ski area. During ski season they run shuttles to the slopes all day.

Time Shares:

Time shares sell time in vacation properties designated for this purpose. You purchase use for a specific amount of time and if owners are not using the units, they are often available rented out. The following time-share properties will rent units to visitors when they are not in use by owners.

It’s all VERY Colorado mountain style. What I really love about Breck are the old, restored houses downtown dating from the gold mining days.

Interesting and refreshing that Breckenridge does not have any of the conventional hotel chains.

A few upscale chains are there, but they have condotels and timeshares. Fairmont Hotels has two properties opening in the future to add to the corporate lodging presence.
