Street Eats, the Santa Fe Reporter’s 2015 food truck event, is back for an encore. We went to the first Street Eats event held in the independent newspaper’s parking lot last September and had a blast pigging out on good eats. Street Eats is back for an encore on Sunday, May 29th from 1 to 5pm at a new location: the Whole Foods branch on St. Francis Drive. The 9 participating trucks and three additional food vendors will set up behind the store in the parking lot that’s usually home to El Chile Toreado (accessed from Cordova Road). Besides food, the afternoon will include a musical tribute to Prince and David Bowie from DJ Miss Ginger. Need a brew with that chow? They’ll have some on tap in the Whole Foods green room.
Food trucks at Street Eats
Participating food trucks are: Bonsai Asian Tacos, Dr. Field Goods Kitchen, Jambo Café, Egg Woah Yeah, Kebab Caravan, Rainbow Snow, Santa Fe Barbeque, Taqueria, Gracias Madre, and La Loncherita Salvadoreña. The three non-truck food vendors are The Betterday. Featuring both sweet and savory selections, the Santa Fe Honey Salon, offering honey-based drinks and jars of honey and The Kombucha Project. Some of the trucks are ones we know but most are new to us. A bit of research yielded the info that some of these trucks can be found out at Meow Wolf, the exciting new interactive art space on Siler Road. We hear that during the week there are one to two trucks and on weekends three to five. If this proves successful, perhaps more trucks will find their way out there. In a city where it’s been hard for food trucks to find spaces where they can consistently set up shop; this is a win/win/win situation for the trucks, Meow Wolf and their guests. We can’t wait to get out there and check this out.
If you love food trucks as much as we do, put Street Eats on your calendar; it’s on ours. Maybe we’ll see you there.
