Grab your appetite and your thirst, awaken your inner cowboy or cowgirl and head for the Angel Fire Food & Wine Roundup. The weekend event, sponsored by Texas’ A Bar N Ranch, takes place from Thursday August 24th through Sunday, August 27th at the Angel Fire Resort in Angel Fire, New Mexico. The packed Roundup offers an exciting line up of western cuisine including Wagyu beef, fine wines, craft brews, artisanal spirits and western hospitality along with with famous chefs, winemakers, brewers and distillers.

Join BBQ guru Meathead Goldwyn, “Barbecue Whisperer, Hedonism Evangelist, Culinary Mythbuster,” author of “The Science of Great Barbecue and Grilling,” and California pit master Harry Soo of Slap Yo’ Daddy BBQ for their Friday morning demo on how to prepare and bring their favorite cuts of meat to the plate. They’ll be using ABarN Ranch’s Wagyu Beef and Kyzer Farm pork. You can taste their food at the lunch event following the demo or you can join the duo for a free Q & A in the Zia Bar at 1:30pm.

Saturday morning Kent Smith and Mike Gilcrease, authors of Dutch Oven Cooking, teach how to prepare wild game in a Dutch over an open fire as well as how to clean and maintain your outdoor all-purpose cooking pot.

Next year be an early bird; this one sold out (there is a waiting list).
On Saturday morning mushroom expert and chef, Tom Bowles, will take adventurous folks hunting for wild fungi in the hills. He and Santa Fe’s James Beard Award-winning cookbook writer and enthusiastic culinarian Cheryl Alters Jamison will transform the foraged bounty nto a delicious lunch.

Friday join Meathead Goldwyn and Harry Soo for lunch. They’ll be serving Wagyu beef and Kyzer pork accompanied by traditional BBQ sides. Sounds delicious! In the after noon they’ll be  doing a free Q &A in the Zia Bar.

Friday evening features two sold-out reserve wine dinners at private homes. Husband and wife chef team Jen and Evan Doughty of Santa Fe’s historic Palace Restaurant and Saloon are each taking over a kitchen for the evening. There is a wait-list.

Start Saturday off at the Chuck Wagon Breakfast from 8:30 to 10am. Roland and Sandra Saul from Hereford, TX, are cooking on their Studebaker Chuck Wagon.

Don’t miss the fun Boots, Boogie & BBQ dinner on Saturday night complete with dancing.

The weekend ends with the Bloody Good Bacon Brunch on Sunday morning.

For oenophiles there’s the Wine Appreciation Seminar, the Reserve Tasting & Silent Auction and Roundup Grand Tasting. For distilled beverage fans, there’s the Spirits Appreciation Seminar on Friday. Like your brew? Head for the Craft Beers Seminar & Lunch featuring a host of brews and a pub fare lunch. Guests at Saturday’s Roundup Grand Tasting will enjoy world class fine wines, spirits and brews along with green chile cheeseburger mini sliders from A Bar N Wagyu Beef and pork ribs from Kyzer Farm.

Saturday morning duffers can take part in the Bulls n Broncs Charity Golf Tournament which benefits the National Veterans Wellness and Healing Center and Make-a-Wish New Mexico.

Or take advantage of the activities Angel Fire Resort offers including ziplining, paddle boarding, disc golf, swimming and a scenic chairlift ride.
